Assmonster becomes "Horror Hacks" 
I am going to release a version of Assmonster under a new name ' "Horror Hacks" because there are quite a lot of people who have assumed that this movie is porn. It's actually retarded, if you really think about it. Would malls really sell porn?

I guess these people never saw what a porn movie looks like.

But I can't change perception, as erroneous as it is. Some people just don't really think too deeply...


There have been quite a lot of people who dismissed the movie due to its packaging and to the title, but they somehow managed to see it later on (various reasons for that). I quite often get comments like, "If only I knew it was THAT funny and clever...." so new name and new packaging comes your way in a few months.

I don't like to double-dip. The packaging is going to reveal that this movie was originally released under the name "Assmonster." Assmonster will continue to exist.

But the new DVD will have some different things. Firstly, it will be widesreen. Secondly, a couple of the scenes will be new edits. It will also have over an hour of bonus content, including bloopers and alternate footage, plus I might put some extended shots here and there.

Now I have to work on packaging that doesn't seem like porn to retards.

To be honest the only reason it caught my eye was the name 'Assmonster'. I figured if someone was to use a title like that they better be able to back it up. To my delight it was hilarious. I now own 8 of your movies and that never would have happened if I passed a title like 'Horror Hacks'. Not to say it's a bad name, but it wouldn't have grabbed my attention as easily.

Thanks for your reply. You're one of the cool people who don't get thrown off by a title like "Assmonster." When I told some friends from the Fantasia Film Festival that I was changing the name, they couldn't figure out why. They love the name.

It's not like the new one will replace the other. It's just that there seems to be a rather large number of people who have shame issues, or maybe they just haven't seen a smart comedy that has nudity. So they assume that anything with the word "Ass" in it, or anything with pictures of girls, is just going to be stupid beyond description. I can't say that I blame such people, but I am proud about having fans like you who can see past things that stump other people.

Hopefully the new title won't be considered "double-dipping" you - I fight really hard against doing stuff like that to people who support me.

Well I'm certainly one of the 'cool' people... Of that I have no doubt... Actually I'm Awesome! But that's beside the point.

I actually understand the point in renaming/ repackaging the film. I'm currently in a similar situation, and yes you try so hard to make it easier for public consumption without selling out your vision and/ or fans. It is certainly tricky. Some genre fans certainly feel betrayed by such actions which I feel is just beyond stupidity. The art of film making is hard enough without running into distro problems. And honestly I don't feel like you are 'selling out' your fans by doing this. If anything it means that my copy of Assmonster is now a collectible! Signed no less!

So in summation, do what you need to do to get your film out to a wider audience. Fans like me will never consider it 'double-dipping', and we'll always support you as long as you continue making films we enjoy.
