Death Metal Documentary
The new documentary that I am working on (I had made a death metal documentary in 2001) got a boost yesterday when I interviewed Septic Flesh and Cradle of Filth. I already have interviewed Cannibal Corpse and Shape of Despair for it. I am not sure what other bands will be selected, but I want to include as many styles and hybrids as possible, and to cover a wide range of topics.

That's great news. Are you going to look at the history of death metal or is it going to focus on the current state of the genre? As for bands: I wouldn't mind seeing Immolation in this doc again. You could also try to do a post-mortem interview with Chuck Schuldiner. Have you ever thought of interviewing dead people? Digging them up and putting them on a chair and asking them questions... And then answering for them and moving their arms around with ropes. It might work.

Re: Death Metal Documentary
The structure of this one is going to be different. After all, I already made a death metal documentary, so I can't follow the saem course. in the new one, each band is asked unique questions, but there are some questions that are asked of several bands because i know that each band will give a different answer.

I don't want to go into the history of death metal because the documentary is probably only going to be watched by people who already know about death metal. I am much more interested in bands that resisted the tendency to adopt black metal traits when that form of music seemed to outsell death metal. That is a kind of history that I think is interesting. But the very early beginnings are foggy. I would say that Hellhammer was one of the first steps toward death metal vocals - they seemed to separate themselves from thrash. But the documentary isn't about my viewpoint. I must let the bands who have shaped death metal talk about the style.

I'm working on getting some rather excellent bands involved in this. Until I get verification I can't let you know which bands. And i agree with you that Immolation would be welcome back, as would Amon Amarth.

Re: Death Metal Documentary
The death metal documentary is almost complete. It will come with a bonus movie from the past (maybe "Spooked").
