Bill Zebub made a movie spoofing the world of low-budget films, using himself as a target for ridicule. It was a movie that was shot for fun, but it became the most critically acclaimed title in his roster, having played four film festivales, including the Hollywood Film Festival and the Fantasia Film Festival (in Montreal). This movie was "Assmonster."
Since that time, many people have written to Bill Zebub apologizing for not having watched the movie when it was first released - they thought it was porn. These people had never seen a Bill Zebub movie before and they assumed by the packaging (lots of skin) and the name (Assmonster) that it was a stupid porn movie. Apparently all of the rave reviews that were printed on the DVD cover did nothing to change their minds. Well, those late-comers nonetheless became fans of Bill Zebub because of that movie, and they wanted to express their regret for having judged it so quickly when they first saw the packaging.
Bill Zebub decided to release a version of the movie that has a different name - one that is more descriptive of the story, and that name is "Horror Hacks." It has artwork that is not over-the-top sexy, like the original two versions.
It is never the intention of Bill Zebub to double-dip his fans. He is aware that there are die-hard afficianados who are "completists" and they want everything that he releases. Bearing that in mind, he has decided edit two of the scenes slightly differently. He also offered the new version in widescreen format.
But there's more. If the die-hard fans are going to buy a version of a movie that they already own, they should have enough bonus material to make that new purchase feel good. So he has provided 90 minutes of bonus content. You get to see a huge amount of bloopers. You also get to see the practice shots of some of the scene, hearing Bill Zebub direct and seeing how the choreography was figured out on location. So you get to see a comedy about the making of a movie, as fiction, and then you get to see some real footage of how to make a movie. It's the first time that this material has ever been released. |
